WOL Air Force Pilot Development Committee



Welcome to the WOL Air Force Pilot Development Committee website. The AFPD committee serves as WOL’s focal point for issues relating to and development as an Air Force pilot. We invite you to join the committee as we have “open membership” – meaning that you don’t need to be an USAF Academy graduate, on active duty, or even a pilot for that matter to be on the committee. If you are interested in taking an active part in promoting minority pilot issues, we ask you to join this committee. The success of this committee is fully dependent upon your involvement as we share our knowledge, experience, successes and failures to help each of us become better skilled aviators and officers; the committee primarily functions through the network and mentoring that takes place through its members. GOAL/MISSION STATEMENT


Increase success of pilots by providing support throughout their career -- from pre-SUPT preparation through flight examiner, across all platforms.


WHAT WE DO


  • Serve as a resource to facilitate mentoring/networking among individual members and other groups with similar goals and purpose
  • Provide tools/knowledge specific to each stage of pilot development (e.g., SUPT, AC school, FLUG, etc.) through committee developed activities, in addition to individual mentoring
  • Promote minority interest in aviation – focusing on youth and military aviation

    Several current and retired Air Force senior leaders (Sq/CC and above)

    COMMITTEE CHAIRMEN:

    Capt Kenyatta “Deacon” Ruffin (F-16 Wingman), 13 FS, Misawa AB, Japan
    Capt Charles “Spanky” Gilliam (C-17 Pilot), 14 AS, Charleston AFB, SC

    COMMITTEE BOARD:

  • Committee board members will direct website content and determine other activities
  • They will serve at least 1 yr on the committee board
  • Looking for a cross-section of MWS’s, missions, and experience; a SUPT IP is highly desired

    • COMMITTEE MEMBERS: SEEKING VOLUNTEERS

  • Anyone with an interest in pilot development and addressing minority pilot issues
  • Committee members will occasional be asked to assist in AFPD projects as approved by the board (e.g. seminars, flight schools, newsletters, webpage etc.)

    • If you want to join this committee, particularly as a mentor, please respond on the Air Force Pilot Development Committee Members Forum to the right and fill out your personal information (please include your name, e-mail, and aircraft you have flown). If you are a volunteer for the committee board or have feedback/ideas regarding this committee, please e-mail Keny Ruffin or Spanky Gilliam.
